What shoes to wear with a long pleated skirt?

A true wardrobe essential, the pleated skirt doesn’t seem to be going out of fashion any time soon, which of course delights us. However, the sustainability of its success also entails the sustainability of the issues that surround it, and in particular that of good associations in the shoe department

Indeed, the long, pleated skirt is a piece which, although it has become basic, requires attention to the combination of lengths at the leg level. That is to say, depending on the length of the skirt and the height of the shoe, the amount of leg revealed is very variable; However, it is precisely this amount of visible leg that makes up the entire silhouette.

To make a mistake in this covered leg/exposed leg ratio is to risk tragedy, nothing more, nothing less.

To avoid any ready-to-wear fashion drama and allow you to always look on top, here is our selection of shoes to wear with a long pleated skirt.

For a rock look: long pleated skirt and leather boots

Fans of a rock look will be delighted by the combination of long pleated skirt and leather ankle boots. That said, of all the shoes we are going to talk about today, it is leather ankle boots that are the most difficult to wear with a long pleated skirt.

Basically, keep in mind that with a skirt that falls between midi and ankle length, the more leg exposed, the better for elongating the silhouette.

Wearing a long pleated skirt with ankle boots means taking the risk of feeling crowded , which is never really the desired effect.

To avoid it, you have several options:

  • Either you are tall with long legs and you don’t have these kinds of problems;
  • Either you opt for a really long pleated skirt, which falls over your boot and solves the problem;
  • Either you opt for low cut and/or openwork ankle boots from the ankle to the foot to visually lengthen your legs.

In any case, a small heel, even as little as 3 cm, is welcome.

For a glam look: long pleated skirt and pumps

Regarding this type of combination, you will have very few questions to ask yourself: the long pleated skirt works very well with pumps, whether they are high heels or kitten heels. It is very easy to wear for all occasions!

On the trend side, we still love pointed toe pumps , possibly with an asymmetrical cutout, in all the colors you like. We have a slight preference for patent or metallic models but their cousins in matte leather or velvet are quite acceptable too, it all depends on your skirt

Slingback pumps, perfectly retro, are also on the rise. Chosen with a pointed toe, they will be perfect to enhance your long pleated skirt.

For a retro look: long pleated skirt and slingback ballerinas

The slingback is not only trendy on heeled pumps, it is also a very fashionable detail on ballerinas, another choice option for a look in a pleated skirt.

With a long pleated skirt + ballet flats, you will get a trendy and feminine retro 60s look , we love it. However, remember to modernize the outfit with a t-shirt or a tank top, possibly with a sweater if the season is cool.

For a comfy look: long pleated skirt and sneakers

The pleated skirt has its place in a comfy wardrobe since it works wonders when worn with a big sweater in winter (or a loose t-shirt in summer) and a pair of sneakers.

Depending on the style of your skirt (rather sober or elaborate), opt for more or less original sneakers. For example, with a long pleated metallic or leopard print skirt, it is better to choose plain white sneakers as simple as possible. Conversely, if your skirt is black, you can treat yourself with animal print, colorblock or metallic sneakers. Either way, wearing sneakers with a skirt is incredibly trendy!

For a preppy look: long pleated skirt and babies

The long pleated skirt being originally a very preppy piece, it will work wonderfully with a pair of Mary Janes with a small square heel , the ultimate in the preppy look.

Of course, you will have to make sure to shift the outfit a little to avoid the good little girl look. You can use a fairly original long pleated skirt for this and/or wear it with a pefecto or a denim jacket.
